BIO of Tuttle
I was born and raised deep in the "Maroon and Orange" small town of Blacksburg, Virginia where everyone adorned their homes and vehicles with Virginia Tech memorabilia. No, I did not attend Virginia Tech, but I loved going to the basketball and football games with my family and friends. I am a proud graduate of Radford University, where we were the "Hustlin' Highlanders." Radford University was named College of Distinction for 2016-2017, so if you want to know more about RU, please do not hesitate to ask me about this phenomenal liberal arts college. After changing my major 5 times, I finally came back to my first love -- English. I continued my degree at Radford University and received a Master's Degree in American Literature and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. Grad school was tough -- working on two degrees, while my friends were completing one, but it was all worth the struggle and all of the late night work sessions. So, trust me, I know what it feels like to cram for tests and write essays the night before!
For the past 25 years I have enjoyed expanding my educational career by teaching at Barber-Scotia College, night classes at CPCC, and within various schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The world of education is where I was meant to be! On May 8, 2019 I became the 2019 CMS Teacher of the Year and my life changed quite a bit. I was able to speak at many education events throughout North Carolina and Virginia, and share my love and passion for teaching the whole child. Through this adventure, I was asked to be in Volkswagen's new commercial on education. That was an amazing experience for me, my family, and my students. There are a few variations of this commercial, but here's the long version called "Kimberly and the Jetta". Every day I get into my Jetta and head to school, I am very thankful for the gift that Keffer Volkswagen in Huntersville blessed me with.
I am the very proud mother of two fun and inquisitive young ladies: Morgan (19 years old) and Danielle (16 years old). They keep us busy between cheerleading, basketball, track and field, cross country, lacrosse, field hockey and various school clubs. Their social life always takes a priority over ours and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. My husband is a rock-star of a teacher and he has the pleasure of teaching Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering at a private school in Charlotte. We are always on the go and have a lot on our plates, but one thing you will always hear my say is "Family First." Fun fact....my mom, Mrs. Day, is a retired kindergarten teacher of 34 years and she loves to substitute at our school. So, if I am out of school, more than likely you will have my mom as your substitute teacher for the day.
We love to travel, we are strong in our faith, and we value our time together as a family.
